Aug. 31, 2007

Box Score

Duquesne's women's soccer team won it's 2007 opener, 2-0 over visiting Canisius Friday evening on Rooney Field.

The Dukes dominated play for most of the game, outshooting the Golden Griffins, 19-6. It took the Red and Blue nearly 50 minutes to find the back of the goal though as freshman Samantha Kaiser headed in her first collegiate goal off an assist from senior Audra Mathews.

DU made it 2-0 in the 79th minute as junior Jenna Farneti tapped in an insurance goal off a rebound in front of the net. Freshman goalkeeper Gabby Morin recorded her first collegiate shutout, making two saves.

The win marked first year head coach Tim Zundel's first Division I head coaching victory.

The Red and Blue return to action on Sunday, Sept. 2 as they host Alabama at 1:00 pm on Rooney Field.
