For the fifth straight year, the Duquesne University wrestling team is ranked among the nation's elite academically, boasting a team grade point average of 3.10, as released by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The Dukes trailed just Duke, Stanford, Brown, Princeton and Northern Iowa in the national rankings.
In addition, junior Cody Midlam (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) and seniors Tim Frank (Fox Chapel, Pa./Fox Chapel) and Jared Ricotta (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch) were named to the NWCA All-Academic Team.
Midlam was an East Regional champion and an NCAA qualifier. A pharmacy major with a 3.58 cumulative grade point average, he finished the season with a 26-16 record.
Frank boasted a 3.39 gpa as an entrepreneur major. On the mat, he turned in a 21-15 slate and was a runner-up at the East Regional Championship.
Ricotta was second on the team in wins with a 29-13 record. He too was an East Regional champion and an NCAA qualifier. In the classroom, he possessed a 3.41 gpa in health management.
