Brendan Madden Led Dukes at W&M Golf Invitational

Williamsburg, Va. - Sophomore's Brendan Madden's (Jefferson Hills, PA / Thomas Jefferson) one-over par 143 led the Duquesne golf team in their spring opener at the William & Mary Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the Kingsmill Golf Resort.

Madden, who shot a one-under par 70 on Monday on the resort's Plantation Course, scored 73 (2-over par) on the 400-yard longer River Course this afternoon. Classmate Drew Ellis (Carnegie, PA / Carlynton) tied for 28th. The Dukes' two-day 610 put them in a tie for 14th with Army and Villanova in the 21-school event.

Campbell won the team title with a seven-over par 575. The Fighting Camels were led by Fredric Sundberg who took the individual crown with a five-under par 137. Sundberg and Detroit's Mark Sommerfeld were the only players in the 111-individual competition to break par.

The Dukes return to action this weekend when they will participate in the two-day Towson Invitational starting at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2007, on the Prospect Bay Golf Course on Maryland's Eastern Shore.
