FAIRFAX - The Duquesne rowing team had an excellent weekend at the 2007 Head of the Occoquan on the Occoquan Reservoir.
The Dukes had three boats in the Women's Collegiate 8 and Women's Collegiate 4. Additionally, they had one boat in the Women's Novice 8+. The race was the first rowing race ever for the women in the novice boat who held off rival Carnegie Mellon by 40 seconds finishing with a time of 24:20.8867. DU's overall finish of 19th was just 12 seconds behind West Virginia.
The Varsity 8's boats finished seventh, ninth and 11th and the Varsity 4's placed fifth, sixth and eighth.
"We are looking very strong, and our spring season outlook is very promising" said coach Joe Setting.
The Dukes take on Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon this Saturday at the Car-Du-Pitt.
