WASHINGTON, D.C. - A Faye Rasmussen goal 29 minutes in to Friday afternoon's game was all the Duquesne offense needed in their 3-0 shutout of George Washington. The Dukes defense, behind keeper Gabby Morrin, recorded their fourth shutout of the season while hold GW to only five shots the entire match.
Duquesne got on the board when Rasmussen took a loose ball and put it past Colonials' keeper Amie Kern on the left-hand side to put the Dukes up 1-0 at 29:32. That would be the only goal for almost 53 minutes as both teams played tight defense. In the 83rd minute, Audra Mathews gave the Dukes some insurance when she scored her third goal of the season on a pass from Shannon Rengers to give the Dukes a 2-0 advantage. Samantha Kaiser sealed the game 93 seconds later when she stole the ball from Kern to score her team-high fourth goal of the year and secure the 3-0 victory.
DU was dominant outshooting GW 15-5 and had six corner kicks to the Colonials two. Mathews, Rasmussen and Kaiser had three shots apiece and Morrin only had to make one save to record her second shutout of the season.
The Dukes (5-4-0, 2-1-0) will try and make it three straight Atlantic 10 Conference victories Sunday afternoon as they travel to Richmond. Match time is 2:30 p.m.
