PHILADELPHIA - Patricia Vernon posted a double-double (10 kills, 15 digs) and added seven total blocks to help lead Temple to a 3-1 win over Duquesne on Friday night. Temple improves to 7-15 overall, 3-3 in the Atlantic 10, while Duquesne falls to 9-11 overall, 1-4 in the conference.
The Owls took game one, 30-23, though the Dukes made them earn every single point. The game featured seven ties and two lead changes. Duquesne got the best of Temple in game two, jumping out to a 6-1 lead, and never looking back to win the game, 30-27. The Owls fought throughout, however, forcing 11 different ties. TU finished off the match with 30-27 and 30-26 wins, respectively.
Kristin Garnett had a game-high 52 assists while Jenni Gross, Nicole Wright and Dana McLaughlin all recorded double-figure kills with 19, 12 and 10 respectively. Amy Palko had a team-high 15 digs and Katie Goss and Nicole Wright had 13 digs apiece.
Duquesne concludes thier Philadelphia road trip tomorrow at La Salle. The match is set for 1:30 p.m.
