Pittsburgh, PA - Duquesne dropped a 3-0 match to visiting Temple Friday night in a mutual Atlantic 10 opener at the A.J. Palumbo Center. Sophomore libero Laura Kastein paced the Dukes with 17 digs while senior outside hitter Amanda Haeg recorded 10 kills. Freshman setter Chelsea Tillotson tied the match lead with three service aces and recorded 31 assists. Temple was led by Yue Liu wit 19 kills and 19 digs.
Game one saw 11 ties and five lead changes before the visiting Owls ended the game out-scoring the Dukes 8-3 for a 30-23 edge. Duquesne held a 5-3 lead early in game two, but the Owls used four unanswered points to snag a 7-5 edge. Duquesne tied the contest five times afterward before Temple served for seven straight points to take a 25-18 lead. The Owls went on to take a 30-22 victory. Game three saw the Red & Blue take a 15-11 edge as Kastein served for three unanswered points, but a 4-1 Temple spree brought to Owls to a 15-16 reach. DU led 18-15 on back-to-back kills, but the Owls sprang to an 11-3 run for a 26-21 edge. The Dukes got within a 26-30 reach as Leah Maya served for three points, including an ace, but Temple would take a 30-26 margin and the match.
Temple (7-7, 1-0) held a 57-35 lead in kills and a 60-47 margin in digs. Duquesne held the blocking edge with six team blocks to the Owls four. Mandy Humphrey, Lindsay Hess and Jessica Artman led the Dukes with three blocks each.
The Red & Blue (6-12, 0-1) return to play this Sunday hosting La Salle in a 1:00 pm Atlantic 10 match at the Palumbo Center.
