Duquesne volleyball opened its 2006 season in style with a 3-1 victory over Rutgers in the opening match of the JMU Days Inn Invitational. The Red & Blue took a 30-23 win in game one before falling 39-37 in a hard-fought game two. The Dukes rallied to a commanding 38-18 margin in game three and snagged a 30-28 victory in the fourth and deciding game - which saw DU trailing 25-28. Duquesne faces the host JMU Dukes at approximately 7:00 pm in today's nightcap.

Junior Jenni Gross led the squad with 20 kills followed by Amanda Haeg with 16, Lindsay Hess wit 14 and Dana McLaughlin with 11 kills. Hess led the Dukes with 21 digs followed closely by McLaughlin with 19. Kristin Garnett added 16 digs, Laura Kastein 15 and Haeg 13 in the victory. The Dukes racked up 70 kills in the contest.
