Dukes Advance to Dad Vail Finals

Duquesne women's rowing posted a stellar showing at this weekend's Dad Vail Regatta advancing to the finals in both events entered - Novice Four and Varsity Pairs - taking fourth and fifth respectively. The Dad Vail wraps up the 2005-06 rowing season.

The Novice Four featured nine different heats with 38 teams participating. The Red & Blue placed 2nd in its heat beating out Saint Thomas and NC State to advance to semifinal action. The Dukes moved onto the final after taking 2nd in its heat (18 teams total) defeating Catholic, Penn State and Purdue. The Novice Four ended the event placing fourth behind Lafayette, Tennessee-Chattanooga and West Virginia. The boat featured Katie Hodnik, Andrea Altieri, Joli Miracle and Sara Colley at stroke with Laura Cherchuck as the coxswain.

The Varsity Pair of Jenna Vanaski and Sara Slear started its day taking 2nd in the qualifying heat, which featured 22 total teams. The Dukes beat out Georgia, Robert Morris, Lehigh and Richard Stockton in heat two. Duquesne then placed 3rd out of 12 teams in the semifinals defeating John Hopkins, Rollins and Bowdoin in its head. They ended the day taking fifth overall.

Duquesne had a fantastic showing in its two events. There were 119 collegiate teams from across the U.S. competing in the two-day event which is considered one of the best collegiate rowing regattas.
