Melissa Johnson Paces DU Swimming at Akron Open

Results

Akron, Ohio - Senior Melissa Johnson led the Duquesne women's swimming team by setting two school records at the Akron Quad Open in the Zips' Ocasek Natatorium Saturday afternoon. Clarion and Oakland were the other two schools at this 4-team meet.

Johnson had a first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:53.46, almost a full two seconds ahead of Akron's Lauren Parr. The other record was set when she finished third (2:09.44) in the 200 yard individual medley. The senior was also a member of the Dukes second place 400 yard freestyle relay team.

The other members of this relay team were junior Lauren Stephens and sophomores Katrina Streiner and Becky Miller. Their 3:36.43 time was 17 seconds behind first place Oakland.

Streiner was also 2nd in the 50 yard freestyle (24.81) and third in the 100 yard free at 54.21.

Duquesne's next competition is a two-team match with Saint Peter's, Saturday, November 17th at 4:00 p.m. in Jersey City, N.J.
