Kingston, R.I. - Duquesne's volleyball team was topped by Rhode Island, 3-1, Saturday night in the Rams' Keaney Gymnasium. The game scores were 30-26, 28-30, 31-29 and 30-22.
Senior Amanda Haeg again paced the Dukes with 20 kills while sophomore Leah Mayo had 18 digs. Haeg also had 16 digs while freshman Chelsea Tillotson set up 56 of the Dukes' points.
Going into the third game tied 1-1, the Dukes fought back from a five point deficit (22-17) to tie the game at 29-29. Rhode Island scored the next two points for their second win of the match.
Duquesne had the edge in the early part of the fourth game by as many as four points before Rhode Island (6-15, 2-2 A-10) took the lead at 15-14, an advantage the hosts would not surrender.
Duquesne (7-15, 1-4 A-10) returns to Pittsburgh for the next competition when they will host cross-town rival Robert Morris on Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. in the Palumbo Center.
