Duquesne's men's soccer team evened its Atlantic 10 record at 1-1 by shutting out 12th-ranked (NSCAA) Fordham, 3-0 in a spirited contest Friday evening on Rooney Field. The Dukes improve to 6-4-1 overall while the Rams dropped to 6-1-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the Atlantic 10.
The scoring opened in the 13th minute as senior Noah Salsi lofted a ball to a waiting junior Travis MacKenzie as he headed it in. Junior Greg Annan also was credited with an assist on the play. The 1-0 lead held for the remainder of the half as the Dukes enjoyed a 14-4 shots advantage at the intermission.
DU struck again in the 83rd minute as MacKenzie again headed in a goal, his fifth of the season, off a corner kick by sophomore Bryan Matthews.
The Dukes put the game out of reach in the 90th minute as junior Garrett MacKenzie found the back of the net off a Matthews assist to end the day's scoring.
Duquesne outshot Fordham, 19-12 and led in fouls, 21-14. In addition, there were three yellow cards in the tightly-fought battle.
