Oct. 27, 2006

Box Score

Pittsburgh, PA - The Duquesne women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 Atlantic 10 loss to visiting Rhode Island (11-8-0, 7-1-0) in a torrential downpour Friday night under the lights of Rooney Field. Senior keeper Ginny Bondi went the distance in goal posting one of her best matches of the season stopping 10 of Rhode Island's 11 shots on goal. Bondi made a great diving save with just 1:50 ticking to keep the Rams to their lone score. The Dukes' Faye Rasmussen and Shaina Geisler led the team with three shots each.

Rhode Island's Deb Nelson posted the lone goal for the Rams who stand tied for first in the A-10 with Charlotte.

The 7:30 pm kick-off saw a strong steady rain the entire contest. The game was an even played bout on both ends which saw the lone goal come from Nelson who tipped the hard pass from Kassandra Spitler just enough to sail past the reach of Bondi into the far right corner of the net. The Dukes were out-shot 22-11 for the match, but saw several late opportunities fall short seeing fouls called in or near the box during a contest which saw solid, strong and physical efforts from both squads.

The loss puts the Dukes at 4-9-2 overall, 3-4-1 in Atlantic 10 action. Duquesne closes out the regular season Sunday afternoon hosting UMass at 1:00 pm for Senior Day.
