Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Xavier

PITTSBURGH, PA - Duquesne lost a 3-0 Atlantic 10 match to visiting Xavier (14-9, 7-1) Friday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center in the first of a two-match weekend series. Senior Amanda Haeg led the Dukes with 11 kills and 14 digs while sophomore Laura Kastein recorded a team-best 17 digs.

Xavier won its third-straight match led by a 13-kill effort by Jill Quayle and 11 kills each from Astyn Bjorklunk and Danielle Skrajewski. Jenni Horvath led the match with 22 digs.

The Musketeers opened the action taking a 30-25 win in game one which saw the visitor take a 7-3 lead early in the contest. Duquesne got within an 8-11 reach before Xavier pulled ahead 22-13. Duquesne used a late spree in which they out-scored XU 8-3 for a 28-24 reach, but it wouldn't be enough. Xavier came out in game two strong taking an 11-4 lead they would not surrender en route to a 30-15 decision. Game three saw the Dukes take an 11-9 lead before the Musketeers grabbed a 22-16 margin on a 13-5 scoring drive. Xavier would go on to win the match with a 30-21 victory in the contest.

Xavier held a 54-38 lead in kills and an 85-60 edge in digs.

The loss puts Duquesne at 8-18 overall, 2-6 in Conference play. The Dukes host Dayton (17-5, 7-0) Sunday at 1:00 pm at the Palumbo Center.
