Dukes and Xavier Battle to 1-1 Double Overtime Tie

Oct. 15, 2006

Box Score

Cincinnati, Ohio - Duquesne University's women's soccer team battled host Xavier for 110 minutes to a 1-1 double overtime tie Sunday afternoon at the Xavier University Soccer Complex and stopped XU's seven-game home winning streak this season and ninth in a row going back to Oct. 16, 2005.

The tie keeps Duquesne at .500 in Atlantic 10 Conference with a 2-2-1 record. The Dukes are 3-7-2 overall.

Duquesne struck first at 38:35 when freshman Brittney Getz (Austintown, Ohio / Austintown Fitch) drilled a shot from 25 yards out and just inside the left post. Sophomore Jenna Farneti (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus) assisted on the score.

Xavier tied the score at 1-1 at 71:10 when Allison Osborne served up a free kick toward the Xavier goal that was inadvertently knocked into the net by a Duquesne defender as she attempted to clear the ball.

Senior Ginny Bondi (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) recorded nine saves, giving her 20 in this weekend's two games. Kelly Farrell had eight saves for XU. Xavier outshot the Dukes 30-16, though they had just one more shot on goal than the Dukes. Each goalie picked up two saves in overtime play.

Xavier is now 1-3-1 in league play and 6-8-1 overall. The tie stopped the Muskies' nine-game home winning streak. It also marks the first non-loss for the Dukes vs. Xavier as the Musketeers led 10-0-0 in the all-time series which began in 1995.

These games conclude the Dukes' road conference matches. Next, Duquesne will host a pair of Philly teams during homecoming weekend. Friday, October 20, the Dukes will take on Temple at 7:00 p.m. and then face Saint Joseph's at 1:00 p.m. Sunday. Both games will be played on Rooney Field.
