Towson, Md. - Duquesne University's women's swimming team lost their first dual match in seven straight competitions Saturday at Towson, 114-91. Senior Jillian Rupinski (Harrison City, PA / Penn-Trafford) and both of the Dukes' relay teams won races.
Rupinski captured the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing at 2:28.95, ahead of teammate and second place Avy Mitchell's (Clearfield, PA / Clearfield) 2:29.75.
Duquesne's squad of seniors Rupinski and Sarah Breisinger (Springdale, PA / Springdale) and freshmen Mallory Marx (Bradford, PA / Bradford) and Becky Miller (Nine Mile Falls, WA / Lakeside) won the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 4:00.62, more than three seconds ahead of DU's second place "B" team.
The Red and Blue team of seniors Liz Barba (Meadville, PA / Meadville), junior Lauren Stephens (Allentown, PA / Parkland) and freshmen Katrina Streiner (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) and Marx also took the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay at 3:37.91, just over a second in front of the Tiger's "B" squad.
Including their victories Friday at La Salle, Duquesne won all four relay races this weekend.
Duquesne (8-6) hosts Denison University next Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the Towers Pool at 1:00 p.m.
