Pittsburgh, Pa. - Duquesne University's volleyball team saw their three-game winning streak stopped Saturday night by Cleveland State, 3-0, in the finale of the Duquesne Invitational at the Palumbo Center. Senior Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry) and junior Amanda Haeg (New Prague, Minn. / New Prague) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Dukes, who had won their first two games of the tourney, ran into a hot Vikings squad who also entered the match with a 2-0 mark. A perfect matchup for the Invitational's final game.
CSU held back Duquesne and broke out to a 30-19 win in game one. The next two contests were more competitive but, in each, the Vikings held on for 30-27 wins.
Freshman Mandy Humphrey (Lakeville, Ohio / West Holmes) hit double digit kills in all three games this weekend, totaling 10 against CSU. Senior Monica Tinsley (Cincinnati, Ohio / Winton Woods) paced DU with 11 kills followed by junior Amanda Haeg's 10 winners. Sophomore Kristin Garnett (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) set up 37 points.
Humphrey averaged 11.0 kills in the tournament while Garnett averaged 12.3 assists this weekend.
Cleveland State was led by Nicole Kennedy's 17 kills and Jenna Maddocks' 12 kills and 15 digs.
The Dukes host crosstown rival Pittsburgh on Tuesday, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the Palumbo Center.
