Philadelphia, Pa. - Duquesne University's volleyball team split their opening weekend of Atlantic 10 Conference play as the Dukes were topped by Temple, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at McGonigle Hall. The game scores were 30-20, 30-21 and 30-13.
Senior Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry) and junior Amanda Haeg (New Prague, Minn. / New Prague) each had eight kills for the Red and Blue with Wuebker contributing a team-best seven digs. Sophomore Kristin Garnett (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) dished out 25 assists and classmate Lindsay Hess ( St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry) paced the Dukes with a .417 shooting percentage.
The Owls, who extended their winning streak to five games, were led by Zhen Jia Liu's 14 kills. Maira Mogollon handed out 35 assists and Yue Liu was the only player to reach double-digit digs; she had 10.
Temple is now 2-0 in league play, 9-7 overall. Duquesne's record is 8-6, 1-1 in the A-10.
Duquesne returns to action on Friday, September 30th when they host Saint Louis at 7:00 p.m. in the Palumbo Center. The Billikens (5-9, 0-1 A-10) joined the Atlantic 10 from Conference USA this year.
