Pittsburgh, Pa. - Duquesne University's volleyball team opened the Duquesne Invitational Friday night with a 3-0 shutout of St. Francis (Loretto, Pa.) at the Palumbo Center. Game scores were 30-22, 30-15 and 31-29.
Junior Amanda Haeg (New Prague, Minn. / New Prague) and freshman Mandy Humphrey (Lakeville, Ohio / West Holmes) led the Dukes (2-1) with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Freshman Laura Kastein (Huntsville, Ohio / Benjamin Logan) had a game-best 16 digs with Dana McLaughlin (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell) adding 10 defensive saves. Sophomore Kristin Garnett (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) set up 35 points.
The Red Flash (0-2), who didn't have a player in double-digit kills, were aided by Linda Dolansky and Anne Roosevelt, each recording 10 digs.
In the other match Friday, Cleveland State (1-1) defeated Rider (0-3), 3-0 (30-18, 30-23, 30-17).
Saturday the Dukes take on Rider at 11:00 a.m. and then face Cleveland State at 7:00 p.m.
