Saint Louis, Missouri - Duquesne's women's soccer team bounced back from Friday's loss to the host Billikens with a 2-0 shutout of Army Sunday afternoon at Saint Louis's Toys for Tots Tournament at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
Sophomore Faye Rasmussen (Westlake, Ohio / Magnificat) and freshman Jenna Farneti (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus) scored DU's goals with sophomore Elizabeth Bok (Akron, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) assisting on Rasmussen's game-winner. Junior Virginia Bondi (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) recorded 10 saves to preserve the win for the 4-1-1 Dukes. The Black Knights are now 5-3-0.
In the 16th minute, Bok and Rasmussen teamed for the go-ahead score, a six-yarder under Army's goalkeeper Rebecca Garcia, who recorded three saves Sunday. The Dukes got the insurance marker in the 74th minute on Farneti's 25-yard shot over Garcia. Devon Collins took over in net, needing to stop two Duquesne shots on goal in the final 16 minutes of the match.
Army outshot Duquesne 21-10, with 10 of their's headed to the net (47.6 percent) while the the Dukes' put seven on the mark (70%).
In the tourney's other match on Sunday, new Atlantic 10 program Saint Louis (6-2-0) scored a 3-0 win over Air Force (4-4-1).
Faye Rasmussen, Kelly Reed and Elizabeth Riggs were named to the All-Tournament team.
Duquesne next hosts Cleveland State 0-7) on Friday, September 23rd at 7:00 p.m.on Rooney Field.
