Morgantiwn, W.Va. - Duquesne's volleyball team dropped game number two of the West Virginia Classic Saturday to the host Mountaineers, 3-1, at the WVU Colliseum Game scores were 30-26, 30-22, 24-30, 30-27. The loss stopped Duquesne's four-game winning streak.
Junior Amanda Haeg (New Prague, Minn. / New Prague) led the Dukes with 14 kills while senior Karisa Decker (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) had 15 defensive digs. Sophomore Kristin Garnett (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) had 52 assists.
After West Virginia won the first two games, 30-26 and 30-22, Duquesne fought back, using four team blocks while three different players had four kills apiece to capture game three, 30-24.
But in the fourth game, West Virginia held off the Dukes for the match-clinching victory, 30-27.
Senior Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry) had 13 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore Lindsay Hess (St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry) added 10 winners. Freshman Laura Kastein (Huntsville, Ohio / Benjamin Logan) also had 13 digs.
West Virginia's Kailee Goold recorded 58 assists and 17 digs while Aurora Ebert-Santos's solid defensive effort provided 33 digs. Stephanie Zolna led WVU's offensive attack with 22 kills.
In the second game Saturday, Buffalo (6-5) beat Memphis 3-1 (30-28, 30-15, 21-30, 30-23). Duquesne (7-4) meets Buffalo at 5:30 p.m. with Memphis (8-5) and WVU (9-3) closing the 2-day event at 8:00 p.m.
