Lewisburg, Pa. - Duquesne University's golf team surged back in the third and final round of the Bucknell Invitational Saturday afternoon to capture 10th place in the 18-team event.
After round one, the Dukes were in 10th place. Friday's second round had been suspended with just a few holes to play due to an evening thunderstorm. DU, which had a score of 303 in the first round, surged to a 312 in the second that was completed Saturday mormning. The 615 total dropped Duquesne to 13th place.
But in Saturday's final effort, the Dukes cut their second round mark by 18 strokes (294) for their 10th place total of 909, two ahead of 11th place Susquehanna and Cornell.
St. Bonaventure won the tournament title with a mark of 858, just one stroke ahead of Bucknell's 859.
Senior Andy Kwiatkowski (Apalachin, NY / Owego Free Academy) paced Duquesne with a 15-over par 225. Redshirt sophomore Ryan D'Onofrio (Denver, CO / Pomona) was one stroke back, tying for 34th place among the 90 golfers.
In addition to the Dukes and Bonnies, other Atlantic 10 teams in action at this two-day event were Fordham (#5) and La Salle (T15).
Next weekend, Duquesne will compete at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational in Delaware on Sunday, September 25 and Monday, September 26, 2005.
