Duquesne University senior wrestlers Mark Himes (Brookville, PA/Brookville) and Marc Allemang (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) have been named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II teams as voted on by the district's sports information directors.
Himes, who was named to the first team, boasts a 3.92 grade point average in economics. He made his first career appearance at the NCAA Championships after winning his weight class at the NCAA Regionals. Himes tallied a 21-21 record for the year and won by pin on three occasions.
Allemang made his third straight appearance at the NCAA Championships to cap off a record setting season and career. He set the University record for career wins with a 124-32 record and also set the school record for wins in a season this year with a 42-8 slate. Allemang was a member of the second team and earned a degree in secondary education/citizenship with a 3.39 gpa.
To be eligible for this award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. He must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution. Sports information directors nominate eligible athletes from their schools who are named to district teams prior to being voted upon on the national level. CoSIDA has been selecting Academic All-America teams since 1952. CoSIDA's District II covers Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
