Final Stats
Middletown, R.I. - Give the weather forecaster a star for the weekend prediction for Narraganst Bay in southern Rhode Island. Action in the 2005 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship was rained out (with high winds) both Saturday and Sunday.
League officials cancelled any further attempts to complete the second round (only 5 teams finished on Friday) at the Newport National Golf Club in Middletown, R.I. All schools had completed 27 holes (1 1/2 rounds) which were declared the final results.
Duquesne was 11th after 27 holes. They did move to 10th on the back nine, being one of the quintet to finish round two, but those results were literally washed out. (Friday's complete results)
Junior Andy Kwiatkowski paced the Dukes with a 27-hole 117. Senior Tom Wears was second with 120.
Xavier was named the 2005 Atlantic 10 Champions after shooting a 427 through 27 holes for the second time in three years. The Musketeers posted the top three golfers in the tournament. Sophomore Jason Kokrak and senior Neal Grusczynski shared medalist honors with a two-under 106. Kokrak, the 2004 A-10 Rookie of the Year, shot a 67 in the first round equaling the course record set by PGA Tour Professional Bret Quigley. Xavier freshman Andy Connell (108) finished tied for third with junior Billy Stewart from Saint Joseph's, just two strokes off the leaders. Connell earned the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year honor for finishing as the top freshman.
