Dukes Add Three Local Players to 2006 Roster

May 11, 2005

Duquesne University baseball coach Mike Wilson announced today the signing of three local baseball players to national letters of intent to play for Duquesne in 2006. Derek Fallecker (Apollo, PA/Kiski Area), Anthony Manley (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem) and Gary Pierpont (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) are the newest Dukes.

Fallecker was the Kiski Area Defensive Player of the Year and a Palomino All-Star in 2004. His team was a WPIAL and PIAA semi-finalist. This year, he is a team captain and one of the team's top hitters.

Manley is a three-year letterman and three-time All-Section third baseman. A three-sport athlete (football, basketball), he led his team in hitting as a junior with a .455 average.

Pierpont had a 4-0 record with 36 strikeouts in 31 innings in 2004 and was named to the Almanac's Honorable Mention team. As a senior, he opened the season as one of the team's top starting pitchers.

This trio joins Brian Bernardo and Brian Schwartzbauer of Shaler high school who signed with the Dukes in the early signing period.
