Dukes 12th of 23 After Day One At Lafayette

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Duquesne University's golf team sits in the middle of the 23-team Lafayette Invitational, held at Center Valley Golf Club, following the first round of the event on Friday.

Duquesne's quintet tallied a round of 312 which was good for 12th place halfway through the 36-hole tournament. Junior Andy Kwiatkowski led the Dukes with a round of 77, good for a 29th place tie in the 117 golfer competition. Senior Mike Namey and freshman Mike Edwards were one stroke back (78) tying for 38th. Another point back, senior Tom Wears tied for 49th with a 79.

The Dukes trail #11 La Salle by one stroke (311) and #10 Lehigh by two (310). American holds the team lead with a 297. Defending champion Binghamton and St. Bonaventure are tied for second at 301, with Niagara (302), Siena (303) and Bucknell (304) rounding out the top six.

Ryan Mikita of Robert Morris aced the par-3, 153-yard 13th hole on his way to a one-over par 71 and a share of the first-day lead.

The competition concludes on Saturday, April 9th at the par 70, 6,916 yard Center Valley Golf Club. The final round will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
