Centreville, Ohio - Duquesne's Jon Pratkanis's score after the first two rounds on the first day of the UD Spring Invitational at the Golf Club at Yankee Trace on Monday placed the freshman in third place overall in the 11-team, 58-player tournament. The Dukes sit securely in eighth place with a 639 total, seven strokes in front of 9th place Youngstown State.
Pratkanis (Erie, PA / Cathedral Prep) started the day with a score of 76 on the 6,923 yard, par 72 course. He cut three strokes in the afternoon, good for a one-over par 73, and is in third place with 149 strokes. The frosh is one stroke behind Butler's Chris Spitler. Wisconsin-Green Bay's Eric Mabee leads the pack with an even-par 144.
Senior Tom Wears (Ogdensburg, NY / Ogdensburg Free Academy), who cut six strokes over his first 18 holes, tallied a three-over par 75 in the afternoon to tie for 19th place with 156 strokes.
Wisconsin-Green Bay's first day total of 598 leads second place St. Bonaventure by 10 strokes.
Today's first round started approx. two hours late due to frost on the course. The final round is set for 8 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun start; tonight's forecast is for a low of 45 so tee off time should be on schedule.
