Complete NCAA Championship Results
St. Louis, Missouri - Senior Marc Allemang, in his third trip to the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, won his first round match over Cody Parker of Oregon, 10-6, in the heavyweight class at the Savvis Center in St. Louis.
Arizona State's Cain Velasquez, the number three seed in this category, won the next match, 9-1. The senior was eliminated from the competition by Navy's Tanner Garrett, 6-5, in the second round of the consolation bracket.
Three other Dukes competed for the first time in the NCAAs:
- 125-pound freshman Jonathan Bittinger was topped by Dave Tomasette of Hofstra, 12-0 and was eliminated from the consolation bracket by Mark McKnight of Buffalo, 19-4.
- 174-pound junior Mark Himes lost to second seed Ben Askren 18-2. Fresno State's Chris Gifford dropped Himes, 9-4.
- 197-pound sophomore Jared Ricotta was pinned by David Dashiell of North Carolina at the 16:50 mark of their championship opener. Brenden McLean from the Air Force Academy won the consolation round match, 17-1.
