Pittsburgh, Pa. - Carl Krauser scored 23 points and Aaron Gray added 14 points and 17 rebounds to lead Pitt to a 71-60 win over cold-shooting Duquesne at the Palumbo Center Wednesday night. Bryant McAllister led the Dukes with 18 points.
There were four ties and one lead change in the opening nine minutes before Krauser started a 12-1 Pitt run with a 3-pointer. Duquesne, which shot 27.6 percent in the half, went scoreless for a span of 4:44 as Pitt built a 25-14 lead on its way to a 32-23 advantage at the half.
Duquesne cut the Pitt lead to six on a McAllister three-point play at the 16:32 mark of the second half, before Pitt responded with an 8-0 run capped by a Krauser fast break layup to make the score 45-31 with 14:51 left.
Duquesne would get no closer than eight the rest of the way as the Pitt lead reached as many as 17 in the closing minutes.
Duquesne finished the game shooting 34.5 percent from the field, while Pitt shot 44.2 percent. The Panthers outrebounded the Dukes 43-33, including a seven-board margin in the second half. DeVario Hudson, who blocked three shots, was the only other Duke in double figures with 11.
