The Duquesne women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 Atlantic 10 decision (19-30, 20-30, 21-30) to visiting Dayton Sunday afternoon at the A.J. Palumbo Center. The loss puts the Dukes 14-12 overall, 4-7 in A-10 play while the Flyers improve to 19-9 overall, 12-1 in Conference action.
Senior Monica Tinsley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) led the Dukes with 10 kills and tied the match lead with four blocks. Senior Diana Wuebker (St. Henry,Ohio/St. Henry) posted a match-best 19 digs and tied Tinsley with four blocks. Freshman Laura Kastein posted 22 assists subbing in for the injured Kristin Garnet. She added 10 digs as well.
Kortney Norris and Jamie-Lee Richards led the Flyers with 11 kills each while Adrienne Green recorded 15 digs. The win extended Dayton's winning streak to 13 matches.
Dayton held a 21-14 lead midway through game one and would not let the Dukes closer than 17-25 reach en route to a 30-19 edge. The Flyers hit .351 (17-4-37) for the game.
Duquesne opened the second game of the series with a 4-0 lead and upped the edge to 7-3 on a Tinsley kill before the Flyers served for five straight points to take an 8-7 edge. Three ties followed before Duquesne's Kastein served for five straight of her own for a 15-13 Dukes' advantage. Dayton followed with five unanswered for an 18-15 lead. The Dukes would get to within a 17-19 reach, but an 8-2 Flyers' run gave the visitor a 27-17 lead they would not relinquish.
Game three once again saw the Red & Blue up with a 5-3 edge, but Dayton would tie the game three times before snagging a 14-10 lead on three kills and a block. The Dukes took advantage of three Dayton hitting errors and a Tinsley kill to tie the game 15-15. The contest would see ties a 16-16, 18-18 and 19-19 before Dayton hit four unanswered points for a 22-19 advantage. The Dukes would get within a 20-22 reach on Amanda Haeg's kill, but would not see another lead.
The Dukes close out the regular season on the road next weekend traveling to Saint Louis (Nov. 10) and Rhode Island (Nov. 12).
