Dukes Sweep URI, 3-0, in Season Finale

Kingston, R.I. - Duquesne University's volleyball team completed the 2005 regular season with a 3-0 blanking of host Rhode Island Saturday afternoon at Keaney Gymnasium. Game scores were 31-29, 30-24, 30-15.

The Dukes (15-12, 5-7 A-10) were led by by sophomore outside hitter Dana McLaughlin's double-double of a match-high 13 kills and 10 digs. Senior middle hitter Diana Wuebker added 11 kills on 15 swings with no errors for a .733 hitting percentage. Sophomore Laura Kastein added 37 assists. Senior Monica Tinsley led the match with a career-best eight blocks (1 solo, 7 assists), putting her as the Dukes' new single-season leader with 114 blocks assists and 127 total blocks. She surpassed Wuebker's 125 total block mark set last season and smashed Jenna Birkel's block assist record of 97 set back in 1997.

Rhode Island (7-20, 1-11 A-10) was paced by sophomore Joanna Mitchell's ll kills, freshman Peggy Doino's 10 digs and junior Inga Schlechet game-high 38 sets.

Duquesne dominated the match out-blocking the Rams racking up 13 team blocks to URI's four.

The Dukes' 15-12 finish gives DU three winning seasons in the last five years.
