St. Louis, Missouri - Duquesne University's volleyball team dropped their penultimate match of the regular season to host Saint Louis, 3-0, Thursday night. Game scores were 33-31, 30-24, 30-24.
Sophomore Laura Kastein's (Huntsville, Ohio / Benjamin Logan) double-double led the Dukes with 17 assists and 14 digs. Junior Amanda Haeg (New Prague, Minn. / New Prague) had a team-best nine kills and eight digs. Senior Monica Tinsley (Cincinnati, Ohio / Winton Woods) was .467 on offense.
Duquesne got off to a 6-1 lead in game one only to see the Billikens (14-15, 6-6 Atlantic 10) tie it at 8-8. DU grabbed an 18-15 lead with three straight points. Three points by SLU tied the game again at 18-18. The Dukes again grabbed the lead, 26-23, only to see the contest tied at 26-26 thru 31-31. Two straight points gave the Billikens the win.
The Billikens scored the first six points of the next game. Duquesne rallied to cut the lead to 15-11 but the Billikens scored three straight to go up 18-11. Duquesne charged back to 26-23. SLU outscored DU 4-1 the rest of the way.
Duquesne took the early lead in game three at 6-2, holding the margin at 8-4. Saint Louis's five-point run gave them a 9-8 lead. The Dukes tied the game on the next point and the game was still tied at 12-12. A solo block by Sutton Lasater gave the Billikens a lead they would not surrender the rest of the way.
Saint Louis's Tatyana Menshikova finished with 20 kills. Erin McClanahan registered 20 digs, while Lauren Boissevain had a double-double with 41 assists and 11 digs.
The Dukes dropped to 14-13 overall, 4-8 in the A-10. DU concludes the regular season on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at Rhode Island (7-19, 1-10)at 2:00 p.m.
