Box Score
The Duquesne women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to visiting La Salle Friday night in an Atlantic 10 bout on Rooney Field. The loss puts Duquesne 9-5-1 overall, 4-4-0 in Conference play while the Explorers improve to 5-11-2 overall, 2-5-1 in the A-10. Keeper Ginny Bondi went the distance in goal stopping eight shots for the Dukes.
The match saw a scoreless first half with Duquesne holding a 9-6 shot advantage and 2-1 edge on corner kicks. The second frame began with much of the same before Audra Mathews' header almost put the Dukes on the board in the 48th minute, but it ricocheted off the cross bar into the end zone. La Salle's Heather Barclay answered with a near goal, but the Dukes' Bondi stopped the power shot to keep the match scoreless. The Explorer's Kristin Hextall fired a 10-foot shot on goal that rebounded in a swarm of players before Lisa Genna landed the first and only score of the game to give La Salle a 1-0 edge in the 70th minute. Duquesne saw several opportunities fall short, especially in the 82nd minute when three shots were fired, and stopped (two blocked, one saved), at the Explorers' net over a 20-second span, but the Dukes could not manage to find the back of the La Salle net.
Duquesne out-shot the Explorers 21-14 for the match and held a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks. It was the Dukes' first home loss this year.
The Dukes close out the regular season this Sunday, Oct. 30, hosting George Washington in a 1:00 pm start for Senior Day.
