Cincinnati, Ohio -- Duquesne's volleyball team suffered its second straight Atlantic 10 loss, falling at Xavier, 3-1. Individual scores were 30-25, 25-20, 24-30 and 27-30.
Senior Monica Tinsley (Cincinnati, Ohio / Winton Woods) led the Dukes with 17 kills and a .464 hitting percentage while freshman Laura Kastein (Huntsville, Ohio / Benjamin Logan) led DU with 17 digs. Sophomore Kristin Garnett (Frankfort, Ill. / Lincoln-Way East) assisted on 49 points for the Red and Blue.
With the score at 11-11 in the first game, the Dukes mounted an 8-2 run to pull in front 19-13. XU would charge back to tie the score at 19-19 and again at 22-22, but DU was too much in the end and scored eight of the last 11 points of the game.
In the second game, nine ties and six lead changes eventually found the Musketeers grab the momentum going into the locker room at the break. The last tie would come at 15-15 and be followed by a key 7-1 run by XU to pull ahead for good, 22-16.
Xavier jump out on top from the very first point of the next game. The Musketeers would not trail in the match and held the largest margin of nine with the score 20-11. The final game found XU total 23 kills compared to only 13 by the visitors en route to the victory and the match.
The Musketeers (14-7, 6-1) were led by Kate Duchek's 21 kills, Jordan Brightwell's 26 digs and Jenn Walsh's 63 sets.
The Dukes (11-9. 3-4) return to the hardwood on Friday, Oct. 21 as they host Rhode Island (6-13, 1-5) at 7:00 pm in the Palumbo Center.
