Amherst, Mass. - Massachusetts ended Duquesne's women's soccer team's four-game winning streak with a 4-0 shut out Friday afternoon at a soaking wet Rudd Field.
The defeat dropped DU's record to 9-3-1 overall, 4-2-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. UMass is now 6-6-1, 3-1-0 in league play.
The Dukes, who entered the weekend with their first ever Soccer Buzz magazine ranking in the Mid-Atlantic region, were led by sophomore Faye Rasmussen's (Westlake, Ohio / Magnificat) four shots, all on goal. Junior Virginia Bondi (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) recorded four saves with the team redirecting another.
Tiffany Hamill opened the scoring with a 12-footer off assists from Adair Blyler and Vanessa Patry in the seventh minute. The game remained at 1-0 through the halftime break.
UMass hit three goals at the opening of the second half to give the hosts a solid 4-0 lead. Britt Canfield knocked in the first at 50:30 and Vanessa Lima tallied the gsme's final two points just over six minutes later.
Kristen Walker made six saves for her sixth shutout of the season; all UMass's wins have been blankings of their opponent.
Duquesne continues the weekend in New England and will take on Rhode Island at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 16th.
