Dukes Edge Youngstown State, 3-2

Youngstown, Ohio - Duquesne's volleyball team topped a scrappy Youngstown State squad by a 3-2 score (30-28, 26-30, 30-23, 20-30, 16-14) Tuesday night at the Beeghly Center. The Dukes (3-2) were led by Diana Wuebker's 22 kills, five aces, 12 digs and nine blocks. Senior Ashley Macko (St. Henry, Ohio / St. Henry) and freshman Jenni Gross (Amherst, Ohio / Amherst Steele) added 17 and 12 kills, respectively. Macko led DU with 20 digs. Freshman Kristin Garnett (Frankfort, IL / Lincoln-Way), the A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week, contributed 57 assists. The Penguins came back from a 2-1 deficit with a 10 point win in the fourth game to force a fifth and deciding match that Duquesne won by the required two points. YSU (2-2) was led by Melanie Pounders and Jessica Fraley with 22 kills apiece. Cari Leslie had a game-high 21 digs. Angie Pasquinelli dished out 70 assists. The Dukes return to action this weekend at the University of Virginia's Jefferson Cup. Radford and Pennsylvania are also in the tournament. DU's first game is against the Quakers at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 10th.
