Dukes Top Colonials, 2-1 on Rooney Field

Sept. 28, 2004

Box Score

Junior Andrew Bell came off the bench to score two goals in leading the Duquesne men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Robert Morris.

The Dukes found the net first as Bell scored in the 35th minute off an assist from junior Scott Gibson and freshman Greg Annan. Less than a minute later, Robert Morris switched goalkeepers due to injury and nine minutes later Bell scored again to give the Red and Blue a 2-0 lead. The Colonials (2-5-1) scored in the 70th minute to end the day's scoring in what turned out to be a quite physical contest. Goalkeeper Zach Varga had five saves for DU.

The Dukes controlled play for the majority of the game, outshooting the Colonials 7-3 in the first half and 9-5 in the second frame. The Red and Blue also had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Both keepers made five saves for their respective teams.

Duquesne concludes its non-conference schedule with a 4-4 record an opens Atlantic 10 play on Friday, Oct. 1 as the Dukes host Xavier at 7:30 pm on Rooney Field.
