Before joining the coaching ranks, Schiffhauer pitched for the Johnstown Steal of the Frontier League after his 1995 graduation from North Carolina State University. In 1996, he pitched for the Springfield Capitols before moving on to the Clarksville Coyotes in 1997. In the fall of 1997, Schiffhauer signed with the Boston Red Sox and following the Red Sox he pitched for the Chico Heat of the Western League. Scholastically, he played for Shaler High School before moving on to Butler County Community College and NC State.
The Dukes open the 2005 campaign on Feb. 25 as they travel to the University of Alabama for a three-game series.
