Middletown, R.I. - Duquesne's University golf team finished the first day of the 2004 Atlantic 10 Golf Championship at the Newport National Golf Club in Middletown, Rhode Island in 10th place with a score of 319, four strokes short of ninth place St. Bonaventure.
Freshman Jon Merriott led the Dukes with an opening round 77 (38- 39) which places the Erie, Pa. native in a tie for 21st place.
The three-day competition continues Saturday, May 1, 2004, at 8:00 a.m.
