Three Dukes Named to Academic All-Conference Team

Three Duquesne University baseball players have been named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team. Seniors Brian Frey (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny), John Rieg (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) and Sean Wilson (Fox Chapel, PA/Fox Chapel) were each named to the 11-player team. Duquesne was one of just two schools with multiple student-athletes on the team and was the only institution with three honorees. All three players also previously received Verizon All-District honors.

Frey finished his collegiate career with a 3.95 cumulative grade point average as a management major. He played in 26 games at catcher for the Dukes and made 20 starts. He had 15 hits, eight RBI and scored 10 runs for Duquesne.

Rieg, the Dukes third baseman, held a 3.78 GPA in elementary/special education. He was second on the team with 37 RBI, third with 12 stolen bases and sixth with a .292 batting average.

Wilson, Duquesne's designated hitter, led the team in walks with 44 and was second in batting average at .345. In addition, he was third in RBI with 32 and fifth in doubles with seven. Wilson was an elementary education major with a 3.61 GPA.

The Dukes finished the season at 25-29 and made Duquesne's first ever appearance at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
