Men's Swimming Recruiting Class Announced

First year men's swimming coach Rick West announced today that Scott Darwin (Springfield, VA/West Springfield), Clayton Dean (Longwood, FL/Lake Brantley), Jordan Moss (Whitehouse, TX/Whitehouse), Brandon Nance (Longview, TX/Longview), Michael Semanchik (Pittsurgh, PA/North Allegheny) and Daniel Wargo (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford) recently signed National Letters of Intent to attend Duquesne University for the 2003-2004 season.

Darwin was a four-year letterman and two year team captain in high school. He finished fourth at the state meet in the 100-yard backstroke this season and placed seventh in the 100 freestyle at states in 2002. He was also an Eastern Zone All-Star for the USS club swim team league and was a member of the school record holding 200 medley relay team.

Dean was a state qualifier in each of his four years of high school and was a state finalist in the 100 back. In addition, he was a member of the state champion 400 freestyle relay team and was an All-American in both swimming and water polo. His teams were conference and district champions all four years and was also runners-up at the state championships.

Moss has a list of accolades from his high school days including multiple district and regional champion awards. As a senior he was a district and regional champion in the 500 free, and a district and regional runner-up in the 200 individual medley as well as a fourth place finisher in the state competition in both events.

Nance helped his high school to its first district championship in school history. The two-time District Swimmer of the Year was also a two-time All-State selection and received All-America consideration. He set school records and was district champion in both the 100 breaststroke and the 200 IM. In addition, he helped set school records on three different relay teams.

Semanchik was an All-American in 2002 as well as a state finalist in 2002 and 2003. Tabbed he team's Most Improved Swimmer as a freshman, sophomore and junior, the four-year letterman also earned letters in cross country as a freshman and sophomore. Semanchik's swimming teams were WPIAL runners-up in 2000, 2002 and 2003 and were WPIAL champions in 2001.

Wargo was a four-year high school letterman, a three-time WPIAL qualifier and a one-time state qualifier. A recipient of the Most Improved award in 2001 and the coaches award in 2003, he set the school record in the 100 butterfly as a senior. In addition, he was the WPIAL runner-up in the 100 butterfly while placing 12th in the event at the state meet. His squad compiled a 46-10 record over his four years and were section champs three times.
