The Duquesne University baseball team captured its first Atlantic 10 championship bid after finishing as the runner-up in the West Division of the A-10 with a program-best 15-9 league record. The Dukes finished the season 25-27 overall and tossed 15 complete games this past season led by sophomore RHP Bob Reifschneider (Lower Burrell, Pa./Lower Burrell) with seven.
The Dukes will face #5 seed Xavier (23-24-2 A-10) in the opening game of the series on Thursday at 12:30 pm at Dodd Memorial Stadium in Norwich, Conn. The winner will advance to face #1 seed and nationally-ranked Richmond (42-11, 19-4 A-10) on Friday at 12:30 pm. The Dukes went 1-2 vs. the #13 Spiders this past weekend to conclude the regular season.
Six teams in all will challenge for the league's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament as Massachusetts (24-17, 14-7 A-10), George Washington (35-16, 12-9 A-10) and Rhode Island (25-24, 16-8 A-10) complete the bracket.
The final two teams remaining in the double-elimination tournament will travel to the campus us the highest remaining seed to host the best-of-three series May 22-24 with the winner taking the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
