WESTOVER, MARYLAND - Duquesne's golf team opened its spring slate with a third place finish out of 20 teams at the Drew Upton Tiger Golf Classic hosted by Towson University. The Dukes battled wind gusts of over 40 miles per hour on Saturday and pouring rain and cold temperatures Sunday and shot a 313-316-229 to finish four stokes behind the tournament champion Penn at the Great Hope Golf Club on Maryland's Eastern Shore.
The University of Ottawa, which was caught on the course Saturday when play was suspended due to darkness, was unable to participate in the second round because of the snow storm coming through the North Atlantic area. The team left Sunday morning to try and beat the storm before the roads became too treacherous to travel.
Senior Sean Flanigan led the Red and Blue and finished third overall out of 106 golfers with a score of 78-76-154. Sophomore Mike Namey added a 78-78-156 to finish sixth.
Duquesne returns to the links on April 7-8 as they host the Duquesne / Robert Morris Invitational at Diamond Run Country Club in Sewickley. Tee times begin at 10:00 am on Monday and a shot gun start is scheduled for 9:30 am on Tuesday.
