DU Golf In Fourth Place At Towson's Classic

Westover, Maryland - Duquesne University's golf team finished in fourth place following round one of Towson University's Drew Upton Memorial Golf Classic on Saturday at Great Hope Golf Club as the Dukes opened their 2003 spring schedule.

DU's mark of 313 is just four strokes behind the leader Skidmore (309) in the 21 team, 20 school, competition. Three teams, Ottawa, Sacred Heart and La Salle, were unable to complete the opening 18 holes as a result of weather conditions. High winds and on and off rain made it difficult to play early on. Play was stopped again for approximately 45 minutes following several lightning strikes around 5:00 pm. The day's round was finally suspended due to darkness.

The four golfers who were still on the course when play was whistled will complete their round beginning at 7:00 a.m. with second round play scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on the Maryland Eastern Shore course, weather permitting.
