Dukes Top URI Swimming: Lose To Host Fordham

Bronx, N.Y. - Duquesne's men's swimming team split their match Saturday at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Acquatic Center winning a 133-84 match over Rhode Island. The Dukes were topped by host Fordham by a 124-106 score.

Sophomore Ed Wicker won the 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle. Freshman Scott Darwin and sophomore Hugo Erse finished one-two in the 200 yard freestyle while Erse and junior Josh Hoffman captured first and second place in the 200 yard butterfly. Scott Darwin took the 200 yard backstroke. Freshman Clayton Dean took the 500 yard freestyle and set a school record in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:52.52.

Darwin, Dean, Erse and Wicker combined to win the 400 yard freestyle relay.

The Dukes have next weekend off and then will head to the Akron Invitational on Thursday - Saturday, December 4th thru 6th.
