BUFFALO, N.Y. - Duquesne's Ashley Macko (Pittsburgh, Pa. / South Park) recorded 19 kills and 10 digs, and Sarah Brown (Glen Rock, Pa. / Susquehannock) added 52 assists to lead the Dukes to a 3-1 (27-30, 30-24, 30-18, 30-24) women's volleyball victory over host Canisius College Friday night in the nightcap of the Canisius/Niagara Tournament.
The Dukes (4-0, 0-0 A10) responded with three straight wins after Canisius (0-4, 0-0 MAAC) took the first game of the match in the Golden Griffins' first matchup in their new Koessler Athletic Center.
Sarah Morrow (Baytown, Texas / Robert E. Lee), this week's Atlantic 10 Volleyball Player of the Week and DU's Co-Student-Athlete of the Week, added 12 kills for the Dukes, while freshman Diana Wuebker (St. Henry, Ohio/St. Henry) posted 11, and Erin Trageser (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) tallied 10 kills. Kim Hoffman led the Golden Griffins with a career-high 21 kills to go along with 11 digs. Christina Wildes posted 12 kills and seven digs, while Jackie Reed tallied 44 assists.
Maine (2-1, 0-0 America East) defeated Niagara (1-4, 0-0 MAAC) 3-2 (30-26, 33-31, 17-30, 23-30, 15-10) in the event's opening match behind 21 kills from Leah Guidinger.
The second day of the tourament moves to Niagara University's Gallagher Center where the Dukes will take on Niagara at 10:30 a.m. and Maine at 4:30 p.m.
