Women's Soccer Shuts-Out YSU

Duquesne improved its record to 4-4-0 on the season with its 5-0 blanking of Youngstown State this afternoon on Rooney Field. The win is the fourth-straight for the Dukes, which ties the regular season win streak mark from both the 1998 and 1999 slates. The women's soccer win-streak record is six from Oct. 30 1997 to Sept. 16, 1998.

Lauren Bracco scored early on the empty net in at the 4:19 mark for her third score of the season followed by Erin Marshall's unassisted goal at 10:25 for a 2-0 Dukes lead. Erica Carey scored from Becky Barritt in the 18th minute for a 3-0 lead. Duquesne's Dana Stimmel scored shortly after subbing into the contest from Katie Hensel for a 4-0 edge at 32:01 before Hensel notched a penalty kick goal at 33:11 for a 5-0 half-time lead and final.

The Red & Blue dominated the match taking 24 shots to the Penguins' four on the day. Duquesne out-shot Youngstown State 9-1 in the second half.

Kristin Scharphorn posted three saves for her second shut-out of the season.

The Dukes are back in action Sept. 28 as they head to St. Bonaventure to open Atlantic 10 play in a noon start.
