Dukes Win Third Straight

The Dukes women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three with a 2-1 victory over visiting Canisius in their home opener this evening on Rooney Field.

Duquesne (3-4-0) saw Lauren Bracco net the headed goal from Erin Marshall's give on a corner kick in the 43rd minute to put the Dukes up 1-0 in the first half. The Dukes' defense allowed just two first half shots while posting 11 of their own.

Erica Carey kicked in the game winner on a long give from Bracco in the 55th minute to take a 2-0 lead over the Golden Griffins. Canisius posted an unassisted goal by Heather Neighbarger in the 73rd minute for the 2-1 final.

In goal, Kristin Scharphorn recorded three saves and allowed just one goal on five shots. Canisius keeper Christine Moran posted 13 saves on 28 shots and allowed two goals.

The Dukes are back in action Sunday as host Youngstown State in a 4:30 pm match on Rooney Field.
