Duquesne University wrestling coach John Hartupee announced the signing of four wrestlers to National Letters of Intent for the 2002-2003 season. Luke Baker (Burgettstown, PA/Burgettstown), Dean Jacobs (McMurray, PA/Peters Twp.), Keith Pavlekovsky (New Bethlehem, PA/Redbank Valley) and Charles Roka (McKeesport, PA/McKeesport) will be added to next year's roster.
Baker has accumulated 75 victories and two section championships in high school. His team compiled a 44-19 record with a section championship in 1999 and was WPIAL semi-finalists in 1999 and 2002.
Jacobs is a three-time WPIAL qualifier who notched over 75 career wins. A four-year starter and senior year team captain, he finished his career with the school's eighth-best dual meet winning percentage and was twice named to The Almanac All-Star team.
Pavlekovsky finished his high school career as his school's record holder in career victories with 117 and single season wins with 37. A two-time District IX champion and Northwest Regional champion, he placed three times at the PIAA competition. He was also named to the Pennsylvania All-Academic Wrestling Team and is a National Coaches Association High School All-American.
Roka comes to Duquesne after 54 career high school wins. He was a three-time WPIAL qualifier and a section champion as a senior. In addition, he was a member of the 2000 Pennsylvania National Cadet Freestyle and Greco Roman teams, finishing second in Greco and third in freestyle.
The Dukes finished the 2001-2002 season with a school record 12 dual meet victories and won the National Catholic Invitational as well as the East Regional Duals championship.
