The NCAA Division I championships got underway Thursday, March 21, 2002, at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, NY. Three Dukes, all juniors, competed in the event.
In the 165 pound class, Bill Boeh (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) was defeated by Oregon's Eugene Harris (8-4) in the 165 pound class. He then topped Mike Mitchell of Duke (3-1) in a consolation match. Boeh (29-6) takes on Tyron Woodley of Missouri Friday morning.
In the other matches:
- Darren McLane (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) was defeated by Army's Phillip Simpson (F - 4:25) and Iowa's Luke Moffitt (F - 4:24) in the 141 pound class. McLane closes the season with a 10-10 record.
- Jeffrey Moskyok (Pittsburgh, PA/Norwin) was defeated by Oklahoma's Josh Lambrecht (F - 1:30) and Jim Massey of Virginia (3-2) in the 184 pound class. Moskyok record for this season is 19-14.
